Abstract

In Ecuador, most commercial varieties are susceptible to late blight, have a crop cycle length more than 160 days and a yield less than 20 t/ ha. In response to these limitations, INIAP and CIP, through a breeding process, obtained a new potato variety with superior characteristics, which is the result of several years of selection and it was called INIAP-CIP-Libertad, which has resistance to late blight, crop cycle less than 120 days, yield greater than 30 t/ha, with quality for fresh consumption and processing. This document describes the procedure followed for the selection of the variety and its main characteristics.
