Supporting Social Workers in the Context of Dementia Care: A Critical Analysis of Current Approaches

Abstract

This review article focuses on the key support mechanisms and factors influencing the professional development and mental health of social service workers caring for people living with dementia. The aim of the text is to systematically analyse current knowledge on the importance of supervision, training programmes, organisational culture and technological support in preventing burnout syndrome and improving quality of care. Based on a critical analysis of scholarly sources published between 2000 and 2024, the article identifies the main challenges faced by the workforce and presents recommendations for practice aimed at strengthening the supportive environment in organizations. The paper provides a comprehensive overview of the factors that influence workers' motivation and professional identity and highlights the need for a comprehensive approach to supporting their professional and personal well-being.
