Abstract

In Ecuador most commercial varieties are susceptible to late tippling, have a growing cycle greater than 160 days and yield less than 20 t/ha. In response to these limitations, the INIAP and the CIP through an improvement process, obtained a new variety with superior characteristics, which is the result of several years of selection and was called INIAP-CIP-Freedom, which has resistance to late tizon, a crop cycle of less than 120 days, yield of more than 30 t/ha, with quality for fresh consumption and processing. This document describes the procedure followed for the selection of the variety and its main features.
