Effect of Vermicompost and Inorganic Fertilizers on Growth and Yield of Chili Pepper (Capsicum annuum)

Abstract

Sustainable fertilization strategies are critical for intensive vegetable production. This study evaluated the effect of combining vermicompost and NPK fertilizers on chili pepper growth and fruit yield in tropical sandy loam soils. Treatments included 100% vermicompost, 100% NPK, and various combinations.
The 50:50 vermicompost + NPK treatment yielded the best results, with a 37% yield increase and improved nutrient uptake compared to NPK alone. Soil properties such as organic carbon and microbial activity were enhanced under integrated treatments. This approach balances productivity and soil health.
