Abstract

Agro-industrial development offers opportunities to transform smallholder agriculture. This study assessed the impact of cassava processing cooperatives on income, labor dynamics, and food security among 240 households in Ghana and Nigeria. A mixed-methods approach combined surveys, focus groups, and economic modeling.
Results showed a 38% average increase in household income and improved market access. Women's participation in processing units significantly improved gender equity and household nutrition. The findings suggest agro-industrialization can drive inclusive rural development when supported by infrastructure and policy frameworks.
