Abstract

The main plague of potato cultivation in Colombia is Guatemalan Tecia solanivora moth. In response to this problem, Agrosavia evaluated and selected potato accesses from the Colombian Central Collection (CCC) with pest resistance. In 2013, reciprocal dialytic crossings of commercial varieties were made by natives with attributes of resistance to Guatemalan moth. The objective of this work was to determine the effect of potato hybrids obtained from these crossings, on single-plating T. and their demographic parameters under laboratory conditions. Five genotypes and two commercial witnesses were evaluated in a non-choice trial, for which a life table was built with two consecutive cohorts. Genotypes 4-69, 23-31 and Black Pearl (PN) were found to have caused the highest mortality of larvae (90, 98 and 98 per cent); 23-31 and PN did not allow adult training. In genotypes 4-69 and 23-31, the net reproductive rate (Ro) (Ro) (3.92 and 4.38) and the intrinsic rate of natural growth (r m) (0,030 and 0.035) decreased significantly and the doubling time of the initial population (TD) (18.14 and 19.35) increased significantly. These results suggest that three of the genotypes evaluated could have attributes of resistance to solanivora T. by the antibiosis mechanism when it affects its biology. This study contributes to the search for materials resistant to Guatemalan moth, the line of work for improvement in Colombia.
